Feldges Photography Session Will Offer Fall Photo Packages at the Market

JoAnn Feldges, a local professional photographer, will be at the market the last three weeks to offer autumn photo sessions. She will have a fall scene set up with hale bales, pumpkins, and other props in the beautiful setting of Grace Presbyterian's park. Bring your dog, your kids--the whole family and have her take some shots. Sitting fee is $20 and this includes a free 5X7 and a password to view all the photos on her website. Friends--we still have about 7 weeks left for the Crystal City Farmers' Market and lots of new things to buy. Grace Presbyterian Church will be selling their apple butter and vendors will soon have pumpkins and gourds to sell just in time for fall. The Future Business Leaders organization at CCHS will also be selling mums on Sept. 14. These sold out quickly last year, so make sure you order early. We're also adding a couple of new vendors who have their second plantings of tomatoes, squash, zucchini, etc. ready to harvest. Our two beef vendors are excited to showcase their local beef and they plan to grill up some hamburgers this fall. So, stop by the market on Wednesdays from 4- dusk to pick up the freshest produce in the Twin Cities.

Classical Guitarist Performing July 13

Alec Feldgers, a young musican from the Hillsboro area, will be performing at the Crystal City Farmers' Market this Wednesday! Alec has been taking classical guitar lessons since he was 6 years old. Come on over to Grace Presbyterian Church and support this budding musican.

Besides our musical talent, the market will also be selling baked goods, honey, goat chese, eggs, grass-fed beef, crafts, dog treats, jellies, and soaps. We're also promised a full range of summer produce--beans, tomatoes, cukes, potatoes, squash, and so much more.

Grab a friend and we'll see you at the market from 4-8 PM on Wednesday. Don't forget--the market WILL be open if it rains. We'll only close the market if there is severe weather. Our farmers have picked their crops and they need to sell them no matter what the weather or the temperature! We're under canopy tents, so don't let rain keep you at home.

The Crystal City Farmers' Market is open every Wednesday from 4-8 PM until Oct. 12. This is our second year of operation and we are excited that our market is growing by leaps and bounds! Vendors are loaded with fresh lettuce, spinach, potatoes, onions, kale, honey, baked goods, plants, and quite a few artisan crafts. Our doggie boutique has also been a popular stop for those with pets.

We welcome our musical addition--Carole Groggin on dulcimer and her friend on guitar. Carole will also give a free lesson on her dulcimer.

The Crystal City Farmers' Market also has new tee-shirts, aprons, and tote bags with our logo printed on the front. They'd make a great gift for Father's Day, birthday, or just because!

Tips for shopping at the Crystal City Farmers' Market

Supporting farmers’ markets strengthens the rural-urban connection and brings communities together to share our bountiful harvest while ensuring the healthy future of farms and families.”

To get the most out of market day, market regulars recommend bringing reusable bags and containers to stow items for the trip home, having small bills to streamline purchases, and being prepared to shop for produce in peak season for top notch quality and the best prices. If you want to take your trip to the next level, pick up a new vegetable and ask the farmer who grew it for a recipe to try, or consider extending the season by buying in bulk to freeze, dry or can foods to last throughout the year.

One Week Until Opening Day

A lot of preparation is going on to get ready for the BIG Day on May 25 when the Crystal City Farmers' Market opens at 4 PM for our second season. We've had a huge amount of interest from vendors this year, so we hope to double or triple the number of booths.

We will offer Tee-Shirts and Tote Bags at the Market Master Booth. Stop by and help support our market. We will also be asking customers for Email addresses so we can maintain a data base to quickly contact our customers.

We are also excited to offer music in the park during market hours at least twice a month this year. Plan to shop, visit friends and stay for some great entertainment at the market.

Finally, look for bright yellow yard signs around the Twin Cities later this week announcing the Crystal City Farmers' Market and look for our ad in the Leader. Stay tuned for more updates as we approach May 25 and please share this information with your friends and family. Let's make our opening market day a huge success!

Gain the knowledge and experience you need to install a drip irrigation system. You are invited to participate in an upcoming irrigation workshop lead by:

Come for discussion and a hands‐on practical experience of what it takes to install a drip irrigation system from beginning to finish. Whether you are a backyard gardener, commercial farmer or hobby farmer you can master the basics of drip irrigation and reap the benefits it offers this 2011 growing season!
A registration fee of $10 per person will be charged to cover costs of refreshments and printed materials.

Welcome back to the second season of the Crystal City Farmers' Market! As we prepare for our May 25 opening, we have scheduled a meeting for Monday, April 18 at 6:30 PM at Grace Presbyterian Church. This meeting is for folks who are interested in selling a product at the market this year.

We hope to increase the number of vendors and expand our customer base as well.
